Expert Solar Panel Installation in North Vancouver
Most solar companies send electricians to your roof. We send roofers — which makes all the difference.
At Eco Exteriors Roofing and Solar, solar panel installation is something we approach from the structure down. Before any panel touches your roof, our team assesses the roofing substrate, checks the integrity of your flashing systems, evaluates penetration points, and confirms that your roof can handle both the mechanical load and the 25-30 year lifespan of a modern solar energy system.
We work with the best residential solar panels, inverter systems, and battery-ready configurations available — and we install them with the same standard of workmanship that’s earned us hundreds of five-star reviews across Lynn Valley, Upper Lonsdale, Edgemont, Deep Cove, and West Vancouver.
If you’ve been considering solar for your North Vancouver home, you want a contractor who respects your roof as much as your electricity bill. That’s exactly what we do.
Why Solar Panel Installation Makes Sense in North Vancouver
It’s a fair question — does solar actually make sense in a rainy coastal climate? The honest answer: yes, more than most homeowners realize.
BC Hydro Electricity Rates Are Rising
BC Hydro has consistently increased residential electricity rates, and the trend shows no sign of reversing. A properly sized solar energy system can offset a significant portion of your annual electricity consumption — locking in energy savings at today's cost while rates continue to climb.
Vancouver Gets More Solar Hours Than You Think
North Vancouver averages approximately 1,900 hours of sunshine annually. Solar photovoltaic panels don't require direct sunlight — they generate electricity from daylight, including the diffuse light common on overcast days. Many North Shore homeowners with south- or west-facing roof planes see excellent system performance year-round.
Net Metering Through BC Hydro
BC Hydro's net metering program allows homeowners with solar energy systems to feed excess electricity back into the grid, receiving a credit on their bill. Over a calendar year, this can dramatically reduce — or in some cases eliminate — your electricity costs.
HPCN Registration and the Peak Saver Rebate
Eco Exteriors is registered with BC Hydro's Heat Pump Contractor Network (HPCN), which is a prerequisite for homeowners to access the Peak Saver rebate — worth up to $10,000 on qualifying solar-plus-battery installations. Most solar installers in the Lower Mainland are not HPCN-registered. We are.
Home Value Improvement
Multiple real estate studies have shown that solar energy systems add measurable market value to residential properties. For North Vancouver's premium housing market — where buyers pay close attention to energy efficiency, sustainability, and long-term operating costs — a solar-ready or solar-powered home is a meaningful differentiator.
Environmental Responsibility
North Shore homeowners tend to care deeply about their environmental footprint. Generating clean renewable electricity from your own roof is one of the highest-impact sustainable home upgrades you can make. A typical residential solar system offsets several tonnes of CO2 annually over its 25-30 year lifespan.
Solar + Roofing Expertise — Why It Matters
Solar installation done wrong is a roofing problem waiting to happen.
When panels are mounted without proper flashing systems, when roof penetrations are sealed poorly, or when a deteriorating roof is loaded with solar equipment, the result is water ingress, warranty voids, and costly re-work. We’ve seen it, and we’ve fixed it.
At Eco Exteriors, every solar panel installation on a North Vancouver home begins with a thorough roof condition assessment. Our team evaluates:
- Remaining roofing lifespan (shingles, metal, cedar shake, flat membrane)
- Roof structure and load-bearing capacity for panel mounting systems
- Current flashing condition at ridges, valleys, and penetrations
- Waterproofing integrity around chimneys, skylights, and plumbing stacks
- Roof orientation, pitch, and shading from trees or adjacent structures
If your roof is near end-of-life, we’ll tell you clearly — and we can complete a Roof Replacement in North Vancouver at the same time, with optimized panel placement built into the new roofing design. No double mobilization fees. No compromised installations.
If your roof is in good shape, we’ll confirm that in writing and get your solar system on the books.
This roof-first approach is what separates a professional solar roofing contractor from a solar sales company with subcontractors.
Types of Solar Energy Systems We Install
Grid-Tied Solar Systems
A grid-tied solar energy system connects your photovoltaic panels directly to the BC Hydro grid through a solar inverter. Excess power you generate gets credited to your account via net metering. This is the most common residential solar installation type in North Vancouver, with the lowest upfront cost and the fastest payback period. System lifespan: 25-30 years. Maintenance: minimal (annual inspection recommended).
Battery-Ready Solar Systems
A battery-ready system is designed to accept battery storage at any point in the future — giving you flexibility today without locking you into a higher upfront cost. Your solar inverter and wiring are configured for a battery upgrade, so when battery technology improves or prices drop, adding storage is straightforward. Popular choice for Deep Cove and Seymour homes that occasionally experience outages.
Solar-Plus-Battery (Hybrid) Systems
A hybrid solar energy system combines rooftop solar panels with battery storage, giving you true energy independence. During outages, your home continues to draw from your battery bank. Overnight, you draw stored solar energy rather than BC Hydro power. This configuration qualifies for the Peak Saver rebate (up to $10,000) when installed by an HPCN-registered contractor like Eco Exteriors. Ideal for Capilano, Blueridge, and hillside properties where backup power has real value.
Solar-Ready Roofing
Replacing your roof and thinking ahead? We offer solar-ready roofing configurations — optimized penetration placement, pre-run conduit, and reinforced rafter areas — that make a future solar installation seamless and cost-effective. Ask about this when booking your Roof Replacement in North Vancouver consultation.
Built for North Vancouver Homes
North Vancouver isn’t a generic market, and solar installation here isn’t a generic job. Our team has installed solar energy systems on the specific home types that define the North Shore — and we understand the nuances.
Lynn Valley & Edgemont
- Established neighbourhoods with mature tree coverage. We evaluate shading from Douglas firs and cedars carefully before committing to a system size. South-facing slopes in these areas often perform exceptionally well for solar generation.
Upper Lonsdale & Delbrook
- Dense residential areas with a mix of older and newer homes. Roof replacement and solar are frequently combined here, allowing us to optimize panel placement during re-roofing rather than working around an existing layout.
Deep Cove & Seymour
- More rural character, larger lots, and homeowners who are particularly motivated by energy independence and environmental values. Battery-ready and hybrid solar systems are popular in these neighbourhoods due to occasional grid interruptions.
Blueridge & Capilano Highlands
- Newer custom homes with larger roof planes, high-efficiency goals, and premium construction standards. Clients in these areas typically want the full solar-plus-battery configuration and a system design that integrates cleanly with smart home technology.
Hillside & Luxury Homes
- Hillside properties present unique roof orientation opportunities — many North Vancouver hillside homes have east- and west-facing roof planes that allow for split array configurations, maximizing generation across morning and afternoon sun windows. We design accordingly.
Why Homeowners Choose Eco Exteriors for Solar
We're Roofers First
Our foundation is roofing — 18+ years of it on the North Shore. When we install solar panels, we do it with a roofer's attention to waterproofing, flashing, and long-term building envelope integrity. That's not something you get from a solar-only company.
HPCN Registered — Rebate Eligible
Not every solar contractor in BC is HPCN-registered. We are — which means our installations qualify your home for BC Hydro's Peak Saver rebate on solar-plus-battery systems. That's up to $10,000 back in your pocket.
One Team, One Contract, No Surprises
We handle roofing assessment, system design, installation, and electrical coordination. You deal with one company, one point of contact, and one warranty. No chasing multiple trades or wondering who's responsible when something needs attention.
Premium Workmanship, Not Volume
We're not the biggest solar company on the North Shore, and we're not trying to be. We take a limited number of projects each season and give every one the attention it deserves. Our clients in Lynn Valley, Edgemont, and West Vancouver trust us because we don't cut corners.
Transparent Communication
Before any work starts, you'll know exactly what's being installed, why, and what to expect at each stage. Our team explains your solar energy system clearly — including what it will and won't do — so you can make informed decisions without pressure.
Cleanliness and Respect for Your Property
A five-star job includes a five-star cleanup. Our crew takes site protection, material staging, and post-installation cleanup seriously. Homeowners in Upper Lonsdale and Deep Cove consistently comment on how clean we leave their properties.

What Our Customers Say About Us
We've completed solar installation projects across North Vancouver. Here's what our customers say.
We chose to go with a metal roof, and I couldn’t be happier with the quality of work and the final results. The craftsmanship is top-notch, and it truly enhances the look of our home. Thank you, thank you!
Fast, responsive and very helpful.
James
Wholeheartedly recommend working with them if you need roofing work.
1. If I was told this, I would have looked at the weather before making the appointment. 2. I called two other roofing companies and both showed up had no problem going on the roof in the rain.
He gets two stars because he actually called to cancel. (The bar is set low with trades these days.)
The affect a new roof has on the curb appeal of your house is enormous, not to mention the comfort you gain knowing that everything is watertight for the oncoming winter - you need the installation done right. Doug, Rada and team were awesome from beginning to end - from clear details of what was being installed in the quote to how they protected the rest of the house and deck during demolition and installation - they went the extra mile.
They easily dealt with some curveballs we threw to them too. They removed our leaky (and now unused) chimneys above the roofline, giving the home a much cleaner look and installed snow guards.
Doug took time to work through a water egress issue that was not related to the roof installation - including helping me cut drywall open! - determined to find a solution the issue. Which we did.
We also required some more specialized carpentry work. Doug leveraged his own network to get us somebody to complete it.
It's not easy to find a company that that you can trust with such competitive pricing and such high quality craftsmanship on such a project. I feel fortunate to have worked with Doug, Rada and the team at Eco Exteriors.
The metal roof has really given the home a transformative look. And the new gutters were really the cherry on top. My photographs attached don't truly show how transformative it is.
A great team and great company!

Solar Panel Installation FAQs — North Vancouver
Yes — solar panels are a sound investment for most North Vancouver homeowners. Despite the coastal climate, the city receives approximately 1,900 sunshine hours per year, and solar photovoltaic panels generate electricity from daylight, not just direct sunlight. Combined with BC Hydro’s net metering program, rising electricity rates, and available rebates like the Peak Saver ($10,000 for qualifying solar-plus-battery systems), well-designed systems typically achieve payback in 8-14 years with 25-30 years of low-cost energy production.
Residential solar installation in North Vancouver typically ranges from $15,000 to $40,000+ depending on system size, roof configuration, and whether battery storage is included. A standard grid-tied system for a typical 2,000 sq ft home falls in the $18,000-$28,000 range before rebates. HPCN-registered installers like Eco Exteriors can help qualifying homeowners access the BC Hydro Peak Saver rebate of up to $10,000 on solar-plus-battery systems, significantly reducing net cost. Financing options are also available.
Yes. Solar panels generate electricity from daylight, not heat or direct sun. During overcast winter days, a properly sized system continues to produce power — typically at 10-25% of peak summer output. Annual production is heavily weighted toward spring and summer, which is why net metering matters: surplus summer credits offset winter consumption, producing a net annual savings. Year-round production data from installed systems on the North Shore confirm that solar is viable across all seasons.
Modern residential solar panels carry performance warranties of 25-30 years, guaranteeing a minimum output (typically 80-85% of rated capacity) at the end of that period. In practice, quality panels from reputable manufacturers often produce efficiently for 30-40 years. Inverters typically have a 10-15 year lifespan and may require one replacement during the system’s lifetime. The panels themselves have no moving parts and require minimal maintenance — typically just an annual inspection.
Yes. Multiple studies in North American real estate markets have found that homes with solar energy systems sell at a premium — often 3-5% above comparable non-solar homes. In North Vancouver’s sustainability-conscious market, where energy efficiency is valued and BC Hydro bills are a real cost of homeownership, a solar-powered home is a compelling differentiator. The value benefit is strongest when the system is owned outright (not leased) and well-documented.
Not necessarily — but your roof should be assessed before installation. Solar panels are expected to last 25-30 years, so a roof with fewer than 10 years of remaining lifespan is generally not a good candidate for solar without first addressing the roofing. Eco Exteriors performs a full roof condition assessment before every solar installation. If replacement is needed, we can do both simultaneously — optimizing panel placement as part of the new roofing design and avoiding a future costly removal-and-reinstall.
South-facing pitched roofs with slopes between 15 and 45 degrees produce the best solar output in North Vancouver. Asphalt shingle, metal, and concrete tile roofs are all compatible with standard solar mounting systems. Cedar shake is more complex but manageable. Flat roofs can work with ballasted or angle-mounted systems. Tree shading is the most common performance challenge in North Vancouver — our assessments specifically evaluate shading from Douglas firs and cedars that can significantly impact production in Lynn Valley, Deep Cove, and Edgemont properties.
A typical 8 kW residential solar system in North Vancouver can generate approximately 7,000-9,500 kWh of electricity per year, depending on roof orientation, shading, and tilt. The average BC household uses 10,000-12,000 kWh annually. A properly sized system can therefore offset 60-90% of annual electricity consumption when combined with net metering. Eco Exteriors provides solar generation projections specific to your address, roof, and historical BC Hydro usage as part of the free consultation.
Yes. Eco Exteriors is registered with BC Hydro’s Heat Pump Contractor Network (HPCN), which is a key qualification for accessing the Peak Saver rebate on solar-plus-battery systems. Our electrical work is performed by or in coordination with licensed electrical contractors in compliance with BC Safety Standards. We are fully licensed and insured for both roofing and solar installation in North Vancouver and across the North Shore.
Net metering is a BC Hydro billing arrangement that allows homeowners with solar energy systems to export excess electricity to the grid and receive a credit on their bill. When your panels produce more electricity than you’re consuming — typically on sunny summer days — the surplus flows to BC Hydro’s grid and is credited at the retail rate. When you draw more than you produce — at night, or in winter — you use those credits. At the end of the billing period, you pay only the net difference. Over a full year, many North Vancouver homeowners with properly sized systems see their annual Hydro bill reduced by 50-100%.
