Roofing Services for Ambleside Homeowners
From full roof replacements to emergency repairs, we offer a complete range of residential roofing services for homes throughout Ambleside and West Vancouver.
Roof Replacement
When an Ambleside roof reaches the end of its life — typically 20 to 30 years depending on material — a full replacement is the most cost-effective long-term decision. We handle everything from tear-off and deck inspection to final cleanup, with minimal disruption to your home.
Roof Repair
When an Ambleside roof reaches the end of its life — typically 20 to 30 years depending on material — a full replacement is the most cost-effective long-term decision. We handle everything from tear-off and deck inspection to final cleanup, with minimal disruption to your home.
Standing seam metal roofing is one of the best long-term investments for Ambleside properties. It handles coastal moisture, resists moss and algae naturally, and can last 50 years or more with minimal maintenance. We fabricate custom standing seam panels on-site, including our own EcoLock concealed fastener system.
Architectural asphalt shingles from Malarkey and CertainTeed are a reliable, cost-effective choice for many Ambleside homes. We install certified products with extended manufacturer warranties, including algae-resistant options engineered for Vancouver’s damp climate.
Cedar shake and shingle roofing is a natural fit for Ambleside’s West Coast aesthetic. We install, repair, and maintain cedar roofing systems, and also offer composite cedar alternatives like EnviroShake — which delivers the same look with a 50-year warranty and none of the ongoing maintenance.
Many Ambleside homes feature flat or low-slope roof sections — over additions, garages, carports, or modern architectural builds. We install TPO, torch-on modified bitumen, EPDM, and peel-and-stick membrane systems designed for West Vancouver’s heavy rainfall.
Proper water management is critical for Ambleside homes exposed to heavy coastal rainfall. We install seamless and internal gutter systems that handle high-volume runoff without overflowing or backing up under the roofline — a common issue in this part of West Vancouver.
Solar Panel Installation
With federal and provincial rebates of up to $10,000 currently available, many Ambleside homeowners are adding rooftop solar to new or existing roofs. As a certified roofing and solar contractor, we integrate panel systems correctly — protecting the roof structure while maximizing energy production.
Skylights
We supply and install Columbia skylights for Ambleside homeowners who want to bring natural light into their homes without compromising waterproofing. Every skylight installation includes proper flashing to prevent the leaks that frequently develop around poorly installed units.
Roofing Challenges in Ambleside
Ambleside’s location at the foot of the North Shore mountains and the edge of Burrard Inlet creates a unique set of roofing challenges that homeowners in drier parts of Metro Vancouver simply don’t face.
Salt-Air Exposure
Properties along and near the Ambleside waterfront are exposed to salt-laden air that accelerates the corrosion of metal components — fasteners, flashings, and gutters — and breaks down standard roofing coatings faster than inland environments. We specify marine-grade and corrosion-resistant materials for any home within close proximity to the water.
Heavy Rainfall and Moisture
West Vancouver receives some of the highest annual rainfall in Metro Vancouver. For Ambleside roofs, that means continuous moisture pressure on shingles, membranes, and wood components. Moss and algae thrive in these conditions, and poorly ventilated attics create condensation that attacks the roof deck from below.
Wind-Driven Storms
Storms tracking across Burrard Inlet hit Ambleside with wind-driven rain that forces water horizontally under shingles, around flashings, and through any gap in the roofing system. Proper installation technique — not just good materials — is what keeps these roofs watertight when conditions get rough.
Aging Roofing Systems
Ambleside has a large stock of established homes built in the 1970s, 80s, and 90s whose original roofs are now at or past end of life. Many of these properties also have cedar shake roofs that have not received the maintenance required to reach a full 30 to 40-year lifespan, and are showing signs of rot and systemic failure.
Built for Ambleside Homes
Ambleside is not a one-size-fits-all neighbourhood. The roofing needs of a 1920s heritage home on 13th Street are very different from those of a modern ocean-view build on Argyle Avenue.
Waterfront Properties
For homes closest to Ambleside Beach and along the Marine Drive waterfront corridor, we prioritize salt-resistant materials, proper drainage design, and corrosion-proof fasteners throughout — because even small failures on these properties can result in significant damage from the constant wind and moisture exposure.
Established Family Homes
The residential streets of Ambleside are lined with well-maintained family homes where roof replacement is a significant investment that homeowners want to get right. We provide clear assessments, honest recommendations, and installations built to outlast the next 30 years of West Vancouver weather.
Luxury Residences
Ambleside’s high-end custom homes demand premium roofing materials and exacting installation standards. Whether that means a full standing seam metal system, a custom cedar roof, or an integrated solar and roofing package, we have the certifications, experience, and craftsmanship to deliver results that match the quality of the home.
Hillside Homes
Properties on the hillside above Ambleside Beach face steeper pitches, increased wind exposure, and complex rooflines that require additional skill and safety protocols. Our team is experienced with the technical demands of steep-slope roofing on West Vancouver’s hillside streets.

Our Roofing Process
Every Ambleside project follows a clear, consistent process — from the first inspection through to final sign-off. We don’t start a job until we understand exactly what your roof needs and you understand exactly what we’re going to do.
Roof Inspection
We begin with a thorough inspection of the roofing system — shingles or membrane, underlayment, flashings, gutters, vents, and attic conditions. For Ambleside properties, we pay close attention to signs of salt-air corrosion, moss penetration, and moisture damage that are specific to coastal West Vancouver.
Recommendations and Planning
After the inspection, we provide a clear written assessment and a straight recommendation — repair or replace, and which materials make the most sense for your home, budget, and goals. We don't oversell. If your roof has life left in it, we'll tell you.
Installation or Repair
Our crews work efficiently and cleanly, protecting your property throughout the project. We use proper underlayment, flashing, ventilation, and drainage details on every installation — not just the visible surface materials — because those are the components that determine how long your roof actually lasts.
Final Walkthrough
When the job is complete, we walk through the finished work with you, confirm cleanup is done, review your warranty documentation, and answer any questions. We want every Ambleside homeowner to feel confident in the investment they've made.
Local Experience in Ambleside
We’ve worked on roofs across Ambleside for over 18 years — from beachside bungalows to hillside custom builds — and that hands-on local experience shapes every decision we make on a project.
Homes Near Ambleside Beach
Properties within a few blocks of Ambleside Beach are among the most exposure-intensive in West Vancouver. We know how to specify and install roofing systems on these homes that handle the combination of ocean wind, moisture, and salt air that degrades lesser installations within 10 to 15 years.
Marine Drive Properties
The homes along and above Marine Drive represent some of Ambleside’s most significant residential properties. Our work in this corridor reflects the premium standards these homeowners expect — precise installation, quality materials, and roofing systems that protect the investment these properties represent.
Hillside Residences
The residential hillside above Ambleside requires experience with steep-slope roofing, complex drainage design, and materials that hold up under the elevated rainfall and wind exposure common at higher elevations on the North Shore mountain slopes.
Long-Term Weather Protection
Ambleside’s climate doesn’t take breaks, and neither does a properly installed roof. Every system we install is designed to handle the full range of West Vancouver weather — heavy autumn rains, occasional winter ice, summer UV, and constant coastal moisture — for 30 to 50 years without systemic failure.
What Our Customers Say About Us
We've completed roofing projects across Ambleside. Here's what our customers say.
We chose to go with a metal roof, and I couldn’t be happier with the quality of work and the final results. The craftsmanship is top-notch, and it truly enhances the look of our home. Thank you, thank you!
Fast, responsive and very helpful.
James
Wholeheartedly recommend working with them if you need roofing work.
1. If I was told this, I would have looked at the weather before making the appointment. 2. I called two other roofing companies and both showed up had no problem going on the roof in the rain.
He gets two stars because he actually called to cancel. (The bar is set low with trades these days.)
The affect a new roof has on the curb appeal of your house is enormous, not to mention the comfort you gain knowing that everything is watertight for the oncoming winter - you need the installation done right. Doug, Rada and team were awesome from beginning to end - from clear details of what was being installed in the quote to how they protected the rest of the house and deck during demolition and installation - they went the extra mile.
They easily dealt with some curveballs we threw to them too. They removed our leaky (and now unused) chimneys above the roofline, giving the home a much cleaner look and installed snow guards.
Doug took time to work through a water egress issue that was not related to the roof installation - including helping me cut drywall open! - determined to find a solution the issue. Which we did.
We also required some more specialized carpentry work. Doug leveraged his own network to get us somebody to complete it.
It's not easy to find a company that that you can trust with such competitive pricing and such high quality craftsmanship on such a project. I feel fortunate to have worked with Doug, Rada and the team at Eco Exteriors.
The metal roof has really given the home a transformative look. And the new gutters were really the cherry on top. My photographs attached don't truly show how transformative it is.
A great team and great company!

Roofing Questions — Answered Honestly
Roof replacement costs in Ambleside typically range from $9,000 to $50,000+ depending on the size, pitch, material, and complexity of the home. Asphalt shingle roofs on standard-sized homes generally fall between $9,000 and $18,000, while premium metal or cedar systems on larger or more complex properties can run significantly higher. We provide detailed written estimates after every inspection — no surprises, no hidden fees.
For homes near the Ambleside waterfront, we recommend professional inspections twice a year — once in spring to assess winter storm damage, and once in fall before the heavy rains begin. Coastal salt-air and wind exposure accelerate wear on flashings, fasteners, and coatings, so more frequent checks catch problems before they become expensive repairs.
The best material depends on your budget, home style, and how long you plan to stay. For the longest lifespan with minimal maintenance, standing seam metal roofing is hard to beat — it handles coastal moisture, resists moss, and can last 50+ years. For a natural West Coast look, EnviroShake composite or properly maintained cedar are strong options. Premium architectural asphalt shingles from Malarkey or CertainTeed offer reliable performance at a lower price point.
Yes — salt-air exposure is a real factor for Ambleside properties, particularly those within a few blocks of the waterfront. Salt accelerates the corrosion of standard metal fasteners, flashings, and gutter systems, and can degrade protective coatings on shingles faster than in inland areas. We account for this by specifying corrosion-resistant components and materials rated for coastal environments.
Metal roofing is an excellent choice for Ambleside waterfront properties, provided the right materials and coatings are used. We specify aluminum or high-grade steel with PVDF coatings for coastal applications — these resist corrosion, shed water efficiently, and carry warranties of 40 to 50+ years. Our custom-fabricated standing seam systems include a non-prorated lifetime workmanship warranty.
The most effective prevention is regular maintenance: biannual inspections, keeping gutters clear, trimming overhanging branches, treating moss early, and addressing minor flashing issues before they become active leaks. Ambleside’s high rainfall means small problems escalate quickly — a loose flashing that’s no issue in a dry climate can let in gallons of water during a heavy West Vancouver rainstorm.
The most common signs include: shingles that are curling, cracking, or missing in multiple areas; significant granule loss visible in gutters; persistent leaks that keep returning after repairs; a roof age of 20+ years (asphalt) or 25+ years (cedar); visible sagging in the roofline; and extensive moss penetration that has lifted shingle edges. If you’re seeing more than one of these, a replacement assessment makes sense.
Lifespan depends heavily on material and maintenance. In Ambleside’s coastal climate, standard asphalt shingles typically last 18 to 25 years, premium architectural shingles 25 to 35 years, cedar shakes (with proper care) 25 to 35 years, metal roofing 40 to 60+ years, and composite systems like EnviroShake up to 50 years. Coastal exposure and annual maintenance both play a significant role in where your roof lands in that range.
Yes — most full roof replacements in West Vancouver require a building permit from the District of West Vancouver. This applies to complete tear-offs and re-roofs, and ensures the work meets the BC Building Code. We handle the permit process on behalf of our clients, so you don’t need to navigate the paperwork yourself. Minor repairs and maintenance typically do not require a permit, but we confirm requirements project by project.
Yes, and it’s one of the most common causes of premature roof failure in West Vancouver. Moss holds moisture against shingles and cedar shakes, accelerating rot, lifting edges, and creating pathways for water to reach the underlayment and deck. In Ambleside’s damp, shaded environment, moss can become a serious problem within a few years on an untreated roof. Annual treatment and regular debris removal are the most effective preventive measures.
